HEC Montreal and First Nations Executive Education, powered by the Executive Education HEC Montreal, hosted the AFNQL Chiefs’ Assembly on September 20 and 21.

This Assembly, which brings together the Chiefs and Grand Chiefs of the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador as well as representatives of Indigenous commissions and organizations, is an opportunity to discuss the priorities and issues of First Nations.

In the context of the 2022 provincial elections, an electoral debate was organized on September 20 by the AFNQL. This debate brought together candidates from four main political parties in Quebec: Alexis Gagné-Lebrun from the Parti Québécois, Gregory Kelly from the Quebec Liberal Party, Ian Lafrenière from Coalition Avenir Québec and Manon Massé from Québec Solidaire.

During the evening, they discussed their parties’ vision on several issues, including governance and the right to self-determination of Aboriginal peoples, as well as the protection of territory and resources, health, education and the protection of Indigenous languages and cultures.

The debate, moderated by Me Marie-Ève Bordeleau, took place on the stage of the National Bank Amphitheatre.
